About Me

My name is Rebecca Ray and I've always loved making. And i've been lucky because for as long as I can remember that is exactly what I've done! I took art, textiles and ceramics at school, and even went on to get a ceramics degree from loughborough university, but after all of that, textiles was still my strongest passion. I was given a chance to develope my skills in hand embroidery in 2005 when i was one of the lucky 7 people to be accepted that year onto the apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework, and since then have never looked back!

Once I graduated I continued working with the Royal School of Needlework in their commercial studio taking on new commissions as well as conservation and restoration of older works. Through them I have played a part in some larger projects such as the regeneration at Dover castle, working on hangings for the Henry II exhibition.

I have also done work experience with Hand & Lock (London) working on regimental banners and with The National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne, Australia) within their fashion and Textiles department. My work there involved cataloging and working on items of their collection for their 2011 exhibition "Manstyle".

In 2010 I moved to Austraila and have since been working on setting up my little cottage business, teaching, making kits and working on my own pieces.

I have exhibited work in the 2008/2009 Knitting and Stitching show, The Graduate Exhibion at Hampton Court Palace, The Quaker House in Bury St. Edmunds, the "Jubilation" exhibition with The Embroiderer's Guild of Victoria and The Nowa Nowa Nudes exhibtion in Victoria, Australia.
